In San Martino della battaglia, a beautiful countryside where vines are cultivated, there is a very particular commemorative tower.
The famous panoramic tower of San Martino della Battaglia, 74 metres high, remembers the battle of June 24th 1859.
From the top of the tower of the San Martino tower there is a beautiful view overlooking the lower part of Lake Garda (you can perfectly distinguish Sirmione, Desenzano, Peschiera, Lazise, Bardolino and Garda) the entire valley of the Mincio up to Valeggio.
On the top of the tower there is a light which during the night sends out a tricoloured light.
This a very beautiful area and it is worth parking you car and move there by bike in order to get around and visit the splendid hills of that area until reaching the higher part where you can find the great panoramic tower.
The Battle of San Martino – Solferino: took place during the second war of independence and to be exact on June 24th 1859, and ended with the victory of the French and Italian armies.
